David Crow grew up as his father’s accomplice. According to David, who wrote about his experiences in his memoir, The Pale-Faced Lie, his dad, an ex-con, involved him in thefts and scams from an early age. He told him stories of murders he’d committed in prison. He cooked up elaborate methods of communication and codes for hidden lock boxes and PO boxes. When other children might have been playing i-spy out of the car window, David’s father was quizzing him on the nearest place to bury a body. On this episode of Pretend, David tell us all about his childhood. In part two, he explains his breaking point and how he got away from his father.
