Disclaimer: The following article is based on true events but uses a pseudonym for the individuals involved. The names “Claudia Rodriguez” and “David Rodriguez” are fictional names used in the PRETEND podcast. Additionally, an update regarding the case has emerged since the initial reporting. Tanya and Rick Fernandez have been charged with harassment and computer tampering as a result of this series. Their trial is scheduled for September 5, 2023.
For over three years, Rick and Tanya Fernandez have been dealing with the terror of being stalked by someone online. Despite their efforts to involve the police and get help, the stalking has continued to this day. In fact, the detectives and even the postal inspector assigned to their case have accused their oldest daughter of being the perpetrator, despite her claiming to have a solid alibi.
According to Rick and Tanya Fernandez, their oldest daughter has struggled with depression and has even attempted suicide twice. At the time when the stalking was occurring, the oldest daughter was institutionalized at a mental health facility and had no access to a phone or the internet. This, combined with the fact that the stalking messages were coming through while she was in the facility, makes it clear to the couple that she could not have been the one sending them.
Instead, Rick and Tanya Fernandez are certain that their daughter’s doctor’s husband is the one behind the stalking. Despite their attempts to convince the authorities of this, they have faced disbelief and accusations rather than help and support.
